Well, they did do it.
As this video, posted on 18th January, predicts, the Black Bloc appeared in the streets of Egypt for the first time yesterday, 25th.
And yes, I do support them.
Ignoring the calls of "teenagers living in Mummy's basement" is important here, as the Black Bloc movement is an accurate sign of the uprising of human people everywhere.
Born in a culture of often invisible violence, what appears insane to many people is really just one of the inevitable eruptions of the sickness which is civilzation. We can, in other words, expect this.
In other news which moved me today, I reproduce here what I believe is an important take on the current transphobia hysteria.
And again, I support what this woman is saying.
I'm sorry, I can't claim that "some of my best friends are transwomen", but while I'm certainly not transphobic, the core question of women's safe spaces is an important one. And one which seems to be under attack by some transwomen - who, I'm sorry again, are men dammit - who have just about succeeded in making female-only spaces illegal.
In still more news - which really isn't news at all but may help explain my fascination with both the above two videos - I took the autism spectrum test yesterday and scored 31. Most people on the autism spectrum score 32 and above. Make of that what you will.

Coleus And Cosatu
A thin but very dense cloud came and sat over us just as the invisible lunar eclipse started. It looked as if we were sitting under a grey mushroom which dropped a little hail, rumbled a bit of thunder, and discharged lightning along its interior.
Then it was gone as if it had never been. The eclipse was over, and I was visited by another plant in my dreams.
Allow me to introduce Coleus - whose scientific taxonomy actually reads Solenestemon, but we've been calling it Coleus for so long that the name has stuck, for humans.
The meeting was in a garden courtyard, full of rain and luxuriant vegetation, which I was looking at through a glass door. There were wooden chairs among the plants - indicating humans of a low level of technology. A rocking chair with a broken left arm was sitting not far from a patch of Coleus, and a voice said to me: "Don't worry, we can fix this."
There were people being killed and re-appearing from parallel dimensions, too.
Coleus - to my surprise, although maybe it shouldn't be - is considered psychoactive., but unresearched in the entheogen department. While I have no intention of taking it for this purpose, still it remains a fact that psychoactive plants are invariably beneficial to humankind in other healing ways.
And now, with a psychedelic change of subject,a word from COSATU:
In the wake of a High Court hearing on eTolls at which the defence advocate descended into threats against both the judge and the prosecuting advocate(however smarmily disguised), the Congress have decided they're going to mobilise against the government decision to ram the privatisation of the freeways down our throats.
Tomorrow the protest marches begin. Gather at Mary Fitzgerald Square at 9am.
Next week Thursday the people intend to occupy the highways. There may well be violence.
I leave it to your individual consciences whether or not to join in. But I will say this: it's about bloody time we all started to take action.

Blame Greed, Not Nature
One dead, 19 others injured at Linkin Park concert in Cape Town.
And so many people blaming "Mother Nature" for the tragedy.
Well, let's take a look. What was Lucozade - a face of Big Pharma GlaxoSmithKline, doing at the concert in the first place?
Linkin Park is a successful purveyor of popular music, and as such has been backed by the corporate music industry until the general populace is just about forced to like it. Me, I think their music is low-level garbage - but what do I know? - my musical tastes are not informed or coerced by huge media corporations.
So Lucozade leapt at the chance to
When, as is not uncommon in Cape Town, the winds reached gale force and people struggled to keep upright while walking, this whole structural edifice of low-level communication...fell over. Injuring 20 of the salespeople and killing one of them.
Big business wanting to increase their visibility by being seen at the cool gigs is not, in my anarchical outlook, forgivable at all. What it boils down to is greed. Which is what powers much of our culture. From popular music bands which I wouldn't listen to if you tied me down with a pair of earphones, to lifestyle consumables like the rabidly unhealthy "energy drinks" which wreck livers while allowing us to pretend that we're really cool, too, the whole system is run and maintained by corporate greed. Little men chasing the illusion of happiness through wealth and, they think, power.
It's all so damned transparent that it makes me howl with laughter. When I'm not weeping for their victims - every one of us - that is.

The Real Bornless One
Most politicians, even those who think of themselves as liberal, are being revealed as the conservative thinkers that they have really always been.
I use 'conservative' in the sense of resistance to change and a limited ability to see the whole picture.
Look at what has made headlines in South Africa this week: an overwhelmingly conservative, nay, positively tribal, response to a piece of satirical art (oh gods, it's got its own Wiki page now).
The ranting masses who called for White annihilation because of this painting can perhaps not be expected to understand the meaning of political satire. Yes, I sound patronising. Nor can they be expected, apparently, to understand that calling for the painting to be taken down from a couple of websites is never going to erase the image from the public view. At last count, there were over 3.5 million copies of The Spear scattered across cyberspace. That the ANC even tried to threaten Twitter, once again, shows the depth of their lack of comprehension.
Speaking as one who has worked for almost 11 years for a company based in Johannesburg which has servers in more than a couple of different countries around the globe and which conducts business across the world at all hours of the Earth's diurnal period, I know how difficult it is for national lawmakers to initiate even a tenuous grip on this idea called the internet. They try, but fall far short of their intentions, mostly.
My ISP has endeared itself to me forever by operating partly within a spectrum of bandwidths which the South Africa government sought to retain for its own purposes.
And on and on.
So when I read this morning that the FCC (h/t Star Foster)in the US is considering "granting rights" to internet based video hosters I just shook my head, clucked my tongue, and uttered a Nanny Ogg standby.
Deary, deary me....
Land based governments were late to the internet party. This whole idea of a citizen-controlled web of communications, commerce and conference had been taking shape for a few decades before the would-be princes of the realm realised that they could be letting it slip through their fingers, and I think it is now too late for them. There is this hydra-headed entity under the control of no one physical principality. And this is as it should be.
Governments around the globe are perhaps slowly waking up to the fact that they have very little actual influence, never mind control, over the space we call cyber and are scrambling to grab on to what they can. Too late fellas, too late. And, just perhaps, we the human folk of this planet can come to the recognition that the non-human folk have always had - that governments, powers and principalities, can have no ownership of the land itself, either, nor the myriad beings which make up the holy host of Life.

Resistance to the Post Human Slave Borg
Charlie Veitch is a spiritual twin of mine.
From his days in corporate finance to his days on the streets hugging policemen to this angry rant, his trajectory has contained almost all the elements of my own, post alcohol and drugs, of course.
I love him to death for the animating spirit within him which just will not shut up.
From the embedded clip I can take away a most important underlining of a principle: If it doesn't make you angry - spitting, hissing, fucking angry - at some point, then you certainly have a way to go to get to the stage where you are actually paying attention.

Respect
The main stream media is, as most of us know, willfully blind, complacent and thus complicit in this murderous over-culture. In addition to this, Radio 702's news arm," Eye Witness News", is something of a joke concerning journalistic standards: their English is frequently appalling and their reporting often carries the air of having been made up on the spot without much thought for cohesion.
It was therefore with great pride that I witnessed my blog-friend and fellow-traveller, Mark Esterhuysen , let loose with a stream of invective against the industrial-capitalist killing machine.(Warning - NSFW language).
As a lowly programmer without many opportunities to strike back at the entity which is holding a loaded gun to all life on this planet, I applaud Mark wildly for using his position as graveyard news anchor to articulate his feelings.
Becoming aware of the inherent insanity of this culture has much in common with becoming an Atheist: once you start to reason things out for yourself, and see how the adults you trusted have been willfully or complacently filling you with crap for years, why, you become very angry indeed.
If I was short-talking this, I'd say he has more balls than I ever had. In reality, his courage, integrity and willingness to put his career on the line for his truth are an amazing testimony to his wholeness and lack of willingness to compromise with what is more and more plainly revealed to be a sick, insane civilisation.
Mark called it as he saw it, and was fired for it.
I couldn't be prouder of him. Respect, my man.

The Sight of Starving Children
I am, among the many labels which can be slapped upon my person, an Anarchist – or at least, a supporter of Anarchism.
This is not as alarming as some people may find it – and not at all surprising to anyone who reads this blog . But the fact is, I find people's understanding of the word Anarchist to be a bit lacking, at times. What Anarchism means, to me, is a critical view – sometimes harshly critical – of the human social systems based upon dominance hierarchies.
Which means, pretty much, all human societal systems at this time, worldwide.
The country I live in is highly patriarchal, and thus subsists on a dominance hierarchy of male-over-female in practice, although our laws are much more enlightened than our people. Perhaps where you live it's the other way around. But all societies in this early 21st century CE on this planet depend in some measure upon control of some parts of the populace by other parts, be it the police controlling the citizenry, the males controlling the females, or, most commonly and in tandem with one or more other hierarchies, the rich controlling the poor.
Here's a very telling piece about just that mindset. When confronted by a picture of a starving child, the woman just feels “blessed”. Whatever she means by that.
I have every sympathy with the writer yelling at the poor victim of our systems, but we have to realise that she probably believes that her answer was spiritually enlightened.
Thank God that you're not oppressed into starvation? What a dangerous way of thinking.
The fact is, we are all enculturated into these systems of control, from the very moment of our birth. We are brought up to believe in a multitude of disguises for the global oppression of humans, animals and plants everywhere.
The religious codes of the Bible, Koran and Torah are pretty masterful pieces of synthetic myth-making which we almost unconsciously integrate into our patterns of thought and hence behaviour, all our lives. Yes, synthetic myths. Or counterfeit, as Joseph Campbell preferred to describe it.
The obviously phony stories of a male creator and the fall of mankind through an act of female disobedience is such a striking attempt to discredit the ancient, and more logical, worship of the female deity that I don't need to say too much more about it. Any one of us could uncover the lies, if we thought about it.
That these counterfeit spiritualities have become mainstream is not to our credit at all. Yet still, even among those bright souls who have examined the major religions of the world and found them wanting, there is still more than a vestige of dominance hierarchy thinking running as a baseplate beneath most of our institutions, be they social, business or governmental.
I only have to remember the attitude of my family of origin – a family which considered people uneducated in the prevailing systems as somehow lacking, or of lesser standing. It could be book learning, or amounts of little green pieces of paper, or ancestry, or something else, but the defining lines are always there. You are this, we are that – and that is better than this, obviously.
It's an attachment to labelling people which is an insidious part of it all as well. I can talk -look at the description of my blog, where I slap at least a couple of defining labels on myself, as if that makes me more real...or more something, anyhow.
Anarchism would have us lose the labels.
It doesn't mean, as many citizens seem to fear, violent looting in the streets as a matter of course. Although that may well happen as people start to wake up to their imprisonment within these toxic, highly oppressive systems.
Anarchy doesn't equate to chaos. It means, rather, an appreciation that we are not the labels we have plastered all over each other, that dominance hierarchies are not the natural order of things, whatever our encultured brains seem to be telling us, and that there are – almost certainly – other ways of Being in this great, beautiful, field of Life which we have put our Souls together to create.
Do you remember? You were certainly there, too.

Fukushima's Fallout on My Soul
...an essay by GreenRevolutionary
For two months now massive plumes of radiative particles have been spewing into the atmosphere from the crippled nuclear power plant in Fukushima. These particles have been carried through the jetstream across the northern Pacific ocean, to the west coast of north america, to the east coast and then finally across the Atlantic to Europe and eventually, if it hasn't already, the atmosphere of the entire global north will be contaminated by the radioactive particles produced by the multiple reactor meltdowns in Fukushima.
The Japanese government and the company responsible for managing the plant; Tepco, have been pouring massive amounts of water onto the nuclear reactors but have been unable to raise the water level at all within the reactors; which are designed to be full of water at all times. The coolant systems which have now failed were supposed to supply 1 million gallons of water per minute to each of Fukushima's six reactors [according to Dr. Helen Caldicott http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ITrXVJMKeQ&feature=player_embedded]; apparently they had no backup plan in case they were unable to permanently supply this preposterous amount of water to the reactors.
There has been no real progress made in Fukushima since the beginning of the accident; in fact things have only gotten much worse. Tepco and the government's attempts to raise the water levels in reactors 1 and 2 have totally failed either because there is massive leaking of radioactive water into the ground and surrounding environment, or because they are unable to provide water at the rate necessary to cool the reactors enough for water to exist in their vicinity. Either way, the reactors are still exposed to the air, still releasing massive amounts of radiation into the atmosphere, and still at risk of hydrogen explosions.
Additionally, we know that Tepco and the government have been intentionally dumping massive amounts of radioactive water directly into the ocean; because they simply have nowhere else to store it all. This radioactive water will travel the major ocean currents of the Pacific and eventually will flow down the west coast of North America. In the center will be the Great Pacific Garbage Gyre being bathed in radioactive rain. All ocean systems are ultimately connected and it is possible that the dumping of so much nuclear waste into the ocean could contaminate the seas worldwide.
And the radiation won't stop coming out of the reactors for an estimated 6 to 9 months according to Tepco and the government; a timetable which many scientists seem to think is extremely optimistic. So radiation will continue to pour out of the plant until then.
But wait a minute, I'm not sick yet. What does exposure to radiation actually do to the human body?
Well, radiation exposure can effect one in a few different ways depending on the type and amount of exposure. Let's explore what the future holds for our species.
First, there is Acute Radiation Syndrome. This occurs when a person is exposed to a source of ionizing radiation, and refers to health effects which appear quickly [within several months of exposure] rather than over the long term [years or decades after exposure]. This is when someone is exposed to an external source of radiation, rather than ingesting a radioactive particle into one's body through the lungs or digestive tract. In other words, this is what people in Japan and nearby the plant have to worry about. The speed of the onset of symptoms usually indicates the severity of the dose.
Acute radiation sickness normally indicates a large dose. The average dose of radiation administered to a person by a medical x-ray device is something like 0.1 Gy, and people begin to get acute radiation sickness at doses of 1-2 Gy. Though there have been exposures of more than 30Gy, 8 Gy is more than sufficient to kill 100% of those exposed, whether they receive medical care or not.
An exposure of 6-8 Gy kills between 95-100% of those who do not receive care, an between 50-100% of those who do. Exposures of 2-6 Gy kill between 5-50% of those who receive care and between 5-100% of those who do not.
Now the fun part; the symptoms!
1. Nausea, vomiting, lack of appetite
2. Bleeding from Orifices
3. Massive infections
4. Anemia
5. Loss of white blood cells (Leukopenia)
6. Hair loss
7. Central Nervous Systems ranging from cognitive impairment to seizures, tremor and ataxia (severe lack of coordination of muscle movements)
8. Etc.
Furthermore, if you are lucky enough to have a small enough exposure to survive the Acute Radiation Syndrome, you also have to deal with the long-term cancer risks associated with accumulated radiation exposure. Every particle of radioactive dust or fallout you breath in or ingest adds to your risk of getting cancer and will irradiate you from the inside out until it is removed, expelled or decays. This causes cancer. Exposures are cumulative; so every dose one gets adds to one's chance of getting cancer.
Fallout comes down in the rain. It has been raining where I live for six days, and at first I was mostly avoiding it and staying inside. I looked on in sadness as the radioactive rain fell down on the plants and animals and the soil outside. I have no Gieger counter, but I have a basic understanding of the interconnectedness of all things. I know the jetstream is bringing radioactive fallout down in the rain where I live. I know this will be happening for a very long time. They won't have the situation even remotely under control until next year at the earliest.
Sitting in the garden the day before yesterday I came to this realization; there are over 440 nuclear reactors in the world. There are over 100 in my own country; the majority of which seem to be concentrated in the Northeast, where I live. There will be more accidents. Eventually, as the grid comes down, there will be no one left with the ability to entomb reactors and there will be massive radiation leakage, almost certainly, whatever we do.
I sat down on the wet grass under a small peach tree and surrounded by flowers and plants yet to bloom. The pair of cardinals who've built their nest in an evergreen next to the house used the time in between rain showers to gather food. The robins who are moving in to an adjacent shrub shuttled in and out of their new home, each time returning to the nest with a beakful of small twigs. Pollinators swarm the flowers during the lull in the rain.
And then, the rain began to fall again. Lightly at first, and I did not move. Why should I. What is the point? I'm virtually guaranteed cancer at this point anyway, even before this accident. All this does is help me let go of the denial. If I live long enough, I will get cancer. I guess in my heart I've always sort of known we'd reach that point in my lifetime; the point at which the environment is so contaminated with carcinogens that virtually 100% of humans will get cancer in their lifetimes.
As it began to pour harder I looked at all of the living things around me. The living world in the place where I live and love enduring baptism by nuclear fallout. Large heavy drops fall on my head, my shoulders, my back, my arms, my legs. My shoulders and back are soon wet through my now moist shirt. The robins continue shuttling. The male cardinal hops from branch to branch low to the ground in the woods, hunting. I do not see the female. I lift my face to the sky and open my mouth, and tears escape from the corners of my eyes to run down my cheeks and mix with the radioactive rain on their way down to the ground.
And there was peace. There was calm. This is where I live. This is my landbase. This is my rain. Our fates are fused. If there is fallout in the rain, and there may not be today but there certainly will be plenty of times before they get this disaster under control, then there will be fallout in my body. So be it. That makes it all the easier to fight for this place while there is still some fight left in me. The years go on; entire ecosystems die - last year the Gulf of Mexico. The year before the discovery of the Great Pacific Garbage Gyre. This year the entire north Pacific Ocean.
A personal future in this world becomes easier and easier to sacrifice. A personal future filled with low white blood cell counts, dying of massive infections in a similar manner to aids patients. Or a personal future with low platelet counts; which are responsible for the clotting of blood and without which the body may bleed profusely and unexpectedly from the nose, rectum or the simplest of skin abrasions. Or dying of bone cancer - or perhaps bone necrosis; where the bone inside a part of one's body dies; and the dead tissue decomposes and causes surrounding tissue to die. Tissue necrosis often leads to gangrene. A personal future watching everything I love die. That's what waiting leads to. That's what the kind of denial that would have me go hide inside from the rain leads to.
I'd rather a personal future spent fighting fiercely for that which is left of what I love; fighting fiercely for life. I don't want to witness the death of the world. I don't want to witness the total and complete unraveling of the web of life. I won't be one of those left at the end who can only leave the house in protective gear for ten minutes at a time to look at the last remaining tree in town before it too dies of radiation poisoning.
No, instead I'll fight for what's left of the web of life, while anything at all still remains of it. I will put everything I am into this fight while I still can. I will fight because there's no better future I'd rather hold out for. I will fight for the right of future generations not just of human beings but of all species to exist on this planet, our home, if we can defend it from those who would participate in omnicide in exchange for a little cash in their pocket. It's time to wake up to reality, time to wake up to responsibility and time to kick the rabid, psychopathic leaders of government and industry off of the fucking planet once and for all.

Coming Soon To A Country Near You
Blogger Mohamed Abdelfattah via David has requested that this video is shown as far and wide as possible.
You know, I work directly with one Eqyptian, a Tunisian and an Algerian. They all say that, while workers in these northern African countries are very loath to strike for higher wages, the price of food has just...sent them to the streets.
Coming soon to a country near you...

In Which I Become a Death Commando
On Wednesday night, I had the following dream:
A silver 860 cc motorcycle which fitted me perfectly gave way to the face of a man asking me earnestly if I was Welsh.
A row of terraced houses - perfectly painted where they fronted the road, in many shades of brown and terracotta. Behind those prim facades, however, a ravening Evil was lurking.
My companions and I were to enter into battle with the Evil behind the house fronts. I exchanged the dark green stickers on my left shoulder at a ticket window for black ones - and I knew that I had joined the Death Commandos. As we made our way towards the row houses, a woman on my right hand turned to me and said :"It's not goodbye, you know. It's see-you-later." And we entered the houses...
This was me for most of my adult life - searching everywhere for some theory of how things worked, desperately trying to fit reason and method onto life. Even after I started to experience events which can at best be described anomalous, I was still feeling a little bewildered at the lack of apparent law and order in this Universe.
And then I found myself at the ground of all Being. The mystical union of Life with All That Is, the evanescent knowledge of this is how it is, this is the only way it can be fizzing up through my hard bitten brain and habits, to convince me, where it mattered, that there is truly nothing to fear, ever, and that the essential nature of the Cosmos is One. Or zero, as the case may be.
At the same time, however, an incandescent rage was growing in me, for the devastation wrought by post agricultural civilization upon the earthly matrix of Life. A sympatico with Anarchists arose within me, alongside a determination to see the fall of this hugely abusive system of control, whatever the cost to myself.
It would seem, from a distance, that I had breached an incompatible paradox. The fact of the Unity of All, the Divinity of All, the absence of anything at all to fear, versus the growing need to see that which did nothing but hurt, maim, destroy and rend into bloody pieces dead itself.
As Bruce Duensing so evocatively puts it in a recent post:
"On the other hand we have the physicist Niels Bohr and the adept named Lao Tze recognizing the crucial nature of paradox versus attempting to conform spirals in cubes. Bohrs once said simply "How wonderful that we have met with a paradox. Now we have some hope of making progress. " while Lao Tze some centuries before observed that truth is always paradoxical, at the moment of coherence when apparent opposites reveal their interdependence." (emphasis mine)
Eventually -in a sacred trance accompanied by my deities, ancestors and spirit animals - I rent the tension the paradox created. The bubble burst, to coin another common phrase, and All collapsed into its true state of not this, not that.
Both worldviews are ineluctably True. And in the space once occupied by the tension in the superficially opposing stances I now find a peace, an essential rightness, and a deeper knowledge of where I'm heading.
Yes indeed, there is nothing to fear. And yes, it is all One Thing, never divided save for Love's sake. And yes, I have irrevocably pledged mySelf to the Great Battle - that of our Evil components, which have grown sick unto Death, against our indivisible Selves, which seek to negate this abomination which We ourselves have brought to bear upon Being.
Neti neti, Always Already we are One, and None, and we - some of Us - go forward to deal a death blow to that which seeks to harm us all.

Quiet Weekend?
If you are a member of the laughably misnamed general public, I wonder whether or not you are aware of what happened this weekend?
Were you informed about the riots in Santiago Chile on the anniversary of the start of the repressive (US backed) Pinochet regime?
Or the demonstrations including the burning of a government building in Thessaloniki Greece, during which the Black Bloc apparently received major crowd support?
These were both large, tens-of-thousands-strong events. Did you see anything about them on the SABC news? Or hear about them on Radio 702's Eyewitness News? No? Read about them in the Sunday broadsheet? No?
I wonder why.
I wonder why we continue to give even tacit support to any mainstream, capitalist led media sources at all, sometimes.

Hospital Strikers: Eat Shit and Die
Striking hospital workers, part of a nation-wide public servants action, yesterday invaded operating theatres, pulled nurses out of their posts, and broke an X Ray machine.
Listening to all of this on the radio, as I'm in bed with the most horrible 'flu I've had in many a year, I was completely repulsed by the screeching union members yelling about more mo-ney while babies and sick people died at their hands.
Union people, listen hard: the State is not your friend. The Police are certainly not your friends. Doctors, sick people and infants, however, are your innocent victims. How dare you, in the name of your materialistic complete lack of conscience?
Or am I overestimating your status as actual human beings? Probably.

Today I Woke Up In The Machine
Today, I woke up in the Patriarchy. And realised that the only reason I haven't completely destroyed myself by now is the fact that I'm aware of it.
The Patriarchy. Civilisation. The Machine. It's all the same evil thing.
See, the Patriarchy doesn't just mean Dude Nation for the purpose of Dude Nation. It's not just men who form the Patriarchy - it's so many of us that we take it as normal. Today I woke up to Radio 702 presenters wittering away about goggalicious women - that would be MILFs, or Cougars, or something, for the rest of you non-Seffricans. Just when a woman has passed the age of childbearing, and she can breathe a sigh of relief that at least the normative necessity of appearing to give a shit about her attractiveness has passed- well, just then she's in for a shock, for now she has a new standard to aspire to: goggaliciousness.
I wanted to scream but I laughed instead. The Patriarchy, The Machine, Civilisation - it's all about objectification. It's all about commodification. And it's all about systems of control which benefit the few who work the system, and leave the rest with hollow aspirations. The main reason the poor of this world don't just murder the rich is that they have been encouraged to aspire to the status of rich themselves. Or at least to aspire to some of the trappings of rich.
The Patriarchy is never about who we really are.If we were aware that we are the arisen manifestations of the Ground of All Being, all of us together, there is no way we could behave the way we do. The tiniest bacterium in your gut is just as much the Creator of the Universe as You are - but you don't seem to know it. If you did, the Patriarchy would not exist for a split second longer.
So, Welcome once more, my friends, to the Machine. If you're not thinking of ways to destroy it, then you are welcome to its ultimate destructiveness in your life. As for myself, I intend to continue, as does Sister Hecate, to undermine the bloody thing at every chance I get. And, being deep inside its belly, I also get a lot of chances.

Mantras
"I am not willing to be written in the Book of Life without you."
So said the email I received yesterday from Integral Life. For some reason, this pricked up my inner ears.
I found myself that evening standing on the pavement outside my place of work, waiting for my partner, addressing everyone I saw in this way, internally, silently.
I may as well have said it out loud to them. The reaction was immediate - smiles, open-faced acknowledgements, a certain lessening of the veering-away we do to each other on the urban streets.
I then turned my attention to the poor captive Pin Oak growing beside me. Lifting my gaze to its top bare branches, I breathed "I am not willing to be written in the Book of Life without you" to it. And felt a slow-beat response of Love.
Next, the bulbs planted in the orderly flower gardens, then the Oil Seed trees drooping across the island. The Sparrows, the stragglers of non-migrated House Martins, and the ubiquitous Mynahs. "I am not willing to be written in the Book of Life without you"

From the car (12 year old Daewoo I finally bought for R20 000 on Monday), looking out at the dark blue sky, Venus and Saturn and Mars in a row, and: "I am not willing to be written in the Book of Life without you"
It's a good mantra.
And it's true. I am not willing to be written in the Book of Life without you. And you. And you. Without You, I am not willing at all.
And here's some more: We Are Everywhere
GROW BACK ALL OVER THE PLACE.

Visible Signs of Sickness

In this video we see the US Police stormtroop their way into someone's house, intentionally shoot and kill one of the owner's dogs, 'accidentally' shoot and injure another dog, terrorise the wife and child, and generally behave like a herd of fucking morons. The home owner was charged with possession of a handful of marijuana.
It happened to be Columbia, Missouri - but it could have been Johannesburg, or your home town.
For police the world over have morphed into something Hitler's SS would have been proud of - yes, they have.
I know - I know - that these, and all police around the world, are just regular joes like you and me, with lives and families, loves and fears, and hopes for the future. Yet they behave like a civilised machine - a Wetiko machine - gone beserk and turning upon the populace they once were sworn to protect.
We see it in armies around the world, too.
If this is upholding law and order, count me an anarchist. Oh hel, count me an Anarchist anyway. The 'defenders of the peace' are showing their true colours at last - as enforcers for the minority elite, the power-hungry and the psychopaths who would rule us.
If you are still a human being in touch with your body, your landbase and your sanity, I would consider hanging out the flag of resistance. The black-and-green, or just black, flag of noncompliance with the cannibalistic culture we have become.

More Pastry - For Shame, For Shame

I've only just heard about the disgraceful assault on Lierre Keith at an Anarchist Book Fair, and quite frankly, I'm shocked cold.
I have supported the acts of the Black Bloc in the past - but I'm now willing to change my mind.
I have supported the acts of courage of the Vegan Anarchists in the past, but I'm now distinctly on the edge of changing my mind.
I have supported the Animal Liberation Front in the past, but now I'm thinking twice about lending them any credence whatsoever.
It's great that people can come to such a sensitivity for non-human life that they find themselves unable to eat that life to stay alive themselves. But for fuck's sake, people, develop your souls a little further, can't you?
If we all felt for the agony of the animals we kill and eat, there'd be an improvement in the world, that's for sure - but then what? Can we start to feel the pain on the spinach as it is ripped from the earth and sliced up, alive, to be digested by a human? Raw, for gods' sakes.
Will we balk at the slaughter of millions of microbial life forms every day - every hour, every second - as we continue on with our lives?
How have these people arrested their spiritual growth so that they no longer recognise that we are incarnate upon the Earth, and that this implies a continued cycle of destruction, death, creation and birth?
For this is the pact we have entered into as meat animals: that we kill to survive, and in turn are food ourselves. It's a beautiful, deadly, grisly and awesome ballet we perform.
And yet some folks have twisted their understanding so far that they are willing to physically assault someone with the guts to explain an alternative (and, to me, highly realistic and Earth-loving) view. It is sick, and so symptomatic of the culture we're embedded in at this turn of the spiral Time.
And one last thing, radical Vegans - if I ever need to rethink my position on Veganism, I will do so by holding your actions uppermost in my mind. Go back to square one, and start again.

End:Civ
A good piece illustrating Jensen's Premise 1:
"Civilization is not and can never be sustainable. This is especially true for industrial civilization."
