Gardening vs Agriculture

Misko over at Kinoo Doodaym has a good post up about rewilding today.

Written by Daniel Quiray of the Rewild New England group, it synchronistically covers that pro-agri-argument some of you have been posting at me.(I'm looking at you, Braxie, and The Michael).

Or maybe it just says what you've been saying. It's called horticulture, though, I think!

  1. Thanks, that's a very well written article.
The difference IS one of scale. I read your gardening posts, and i'd like to believe that even as hunter gatherers, we'd have a herb and vege garden :)
Todays weather should make any garden happy.

    Peace ;-)

  2. Hi All,
    Hi Terri and abraxas,

abraxas, yes, definitely, hunter gatherers were often also gardeners or kinda-permaculturists or they would 'manage' the ecosystem they were a part of. For example, here in the north east of this Turtle Island (America), I learned recently that the Iroquois, among others, voluntarily favored certain fruit plants, nut trees , etc. on their territory.

My personal ideal is a hunting/fishing/gathering
/'managing' and kinda-permacultivating tribal type of living, with a strong emphasis on sane relations with All, human and nonhuman. Still very far from that ideal though. But I'm working on it.

  3. Stay tuned for an added preface to that. I've been working on a visually stimulating narrative about neo-indigenous living as I envision it. So far I'm liking how it's coming out.

  4. Sorry to go off topic, but is there any further word on the case against the so-called "man" who killed your dogs? Hopefully he's in jail...

  5. Coyote Prime,
As far as I know, the security guard who murdered my friends is still free and still working for the company who sheilded his actions from the outrage of the genereal public.
But not for long, perhaps; we've retained a lawyer and a private investigator, and the company is going to pay very very heavily indeed.
I'm not going to go into detail here, but they should be receiving a summons to the Supreme Court sometime this week.
Money won't bring my companions back, but if it'll hurt these insane sobs then I'll fight them financially.

    Love,
    Terri in Joburg
