Au Revoir Sally

Off to your rest, Sally Ride.
Her picture was the only one of a human being adorning my first-year university room's walls.The rest were of bikes, galaxies and planets.
One of my heras.
And she was less than nine years older than me.

To be absolutely and completely honest, I didn't follow her career closely after about 1987. I think I mostly shut down on the NASA program after, holding an infant Shevek in my arms, I watched Challenger blow up. On telly. All those tears will never bring them back as they were. And Dr Sally....I'm so glad you gave yourself space to be the woman you were meant to be, eventually.
