Would anybody like to have a stab at what this experiment seems to be showing?
Apparently, a DNA fragment managed to duplicate itself across thin air into a vial of water.
This is not, as the article is careful to note, true teleportation as we've been practising it on Cesium and Rubidium atoms up to now, as the original fragment doesn't disappear and reappear in another place - although it does, strangely, have to be diluted several times (homeopathy, anyone?).
I admit that I lack the background to fully understand this right now. So -anybody out there got a better handle on it than I have? It seems to be simultaneously quite marvelous and very, very frightening.
The closest this comes to my experience is that of molasses. "apparently" once upon a time molasses were always liquid, until one day a trader transporting some discovered that they had crystalised. Within a very short time space several other barrels of molasses had also crystalised, despite having no contact with the origional barrel, and the never having happened before.
