For My Father

Dear Dad,

Today you would have been 74 years old.

You left this world five and a half years ago, but what is remembered, lives.

I listen to The Bandstand and sing along with some of the music you loved.

I play some of the classical composers you were fond of, and am glad that you understood this sublime form of human expression.

I remember your lessons, and I hope, finally, to be making myself into someone you'd be very proud of.
